CalendarI am using the month of May to take my ChitaFit to another level and decrease my fat percentage. When I was working out with my trainer Cornell McClean, he taught me that my body is a machine that needs it’s nutrients to operate. A lot of times we do not eat enough throughout the day and therefore, do not lose weight. 2000 calories is only the bear minimum the body needs to operate not necessarily the goal for everybody to focus on consuming.
I will start with eating 2700 calories and then decrease every week in May by 100 calories. I am doing this so that my body will know that I will not stave it and therefore my body can let me work with my stored fat cells.
Week One – 2700 Calories
Week Two – 2600 Calories
Week Three – 2500 Calories
Week Four – 2400 Calories
The First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS) is continuing her work with getting Americans healthy by creating a campaign to drink more water. In the video above, the FLOTUS mentions that our bodies are 70 percent water and she encourages everyone to choose to recharge with water.
Michelle Obama has teamed up with Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) to help spread the message. (1) PHA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit that is led by some of the nation’s most respected health and childhood obesity advocates.
The First Lady, Michele Obama is the organization’s honorary chair, and she works with honorary vice-chairmen William H. Frist (a former senator of Maryland) and Mayor Cory A. Booker of Newark.
The campaign cites drinking more water as the single best thing you can do to start a healthy lifestyle, even if you start by increasing your water intake by one glass daily.
Celebrities like Eva Longoria have also signed on to join the Drink Up campaign.
Personally, I try to drink half my body weight in ounces of water a day. I believe that drinking this amount of water helps my skin to be soft and also helps cleanse my body of toxins. Although there isn’t a set number of ounces that is necessary for the human body, I believe it is safe to say that we need more than 8 glasses.
Lack of water can you leave you with a lot of issues (constipated, thirsty, hungry, dry skin and hair, etc.).
Start your pledge of drinking more water by posting a picture of yourself drinking water on Instragram with hashtag #drinkH2O and #ChitaFit.

I am such a fan of our First Lady Michelle Obama and all she represents. If you read my bio, you know the FLOTUS was my motivation that started me on my healthy lifestyle. I have a jump rope and its great for my home workouts.

There are so many good fitness health websites out on the Internet that it can be overwhelming for beginners or for those trying to renew their fitness goals after a long break. I visit a lot of health websites and read tons of fitness magazine. I like to visit www.fitbie.com a couple times of week to find interesting new facts about healthy living.
I’ve posted a quick reference and link to a full article that explains the three most common mistakes people make when trying to be more fit. The article details why the mistakes are considered mistakes and how they work to slow your metabolism over time. Keep these fitness faux pas in mind and prevent them from distracting you in your health goals.
The three mistakes are:

Many times when people are trying to live a healthier lifestyle the first thing they do is try to eat less. But one of the first things to consider for weight loss is your metabolism. Increasing your metabolism will help your body work more efficiently by turning the food you eat into energy that can burn off fat.
I am a huge Oprah fan and I was elated when she introduced the world to Dr. Oz. I am now a Dr. Oz fan too. I’m always checking out his website, since I’m not home in time to catch his day time show airings.
Dr. Oz has a 7-Day Miracle plan to boost your metabolism that really works over time. Remember as we get older, our bodies start to move a little slower, so it is very important we do the necessary work to stay healthy. Your metabolism slows down at the age of 30 and then again at 40 years old. After 40, your metabolism slows down 5% every decade.
Here is an overview of the 7-Day Miracle plan to Boost Your Metabolism;

Dear Beloved Family & Friends,
I wanted to take a few moments to share what I have been up to this year. As many of you know, about four years ago I began living a more active, healthy lifestyle. During this time, I discovered that I love running and spin cycling. Because of my knees, I no longer run. However, my love for cycling has increased. I began dreaming about teaching spin classes, but I let fear keep me from pursuing it.
Earlier this year, I decided to start making my dream of teaching spin a reality by creating a fitness company called ChitaFit. I also went as far as getting certified to teach spin! At the beginning of the year, I went up to New York and took an all-day class of book work and bike work. I had butterflies the entire day during class. Can you imagine a class with 60 people trying to all get certified to teach! Not to mention having to take two 1 hour spin classes. Between my butterflies and burning thighs, I thought I was going to DIE! I left the class, having burned 1,500 (or more) calories and with a new certification to do what I love: Bring spinning to the ones I love.
I spent the next few months emailing gyms and spreading the word that I am a new certified spin instructor looking for a home. I even joined a gym in hopes that I could teach there. Finally, out of the blue, I got an email about a new start up Fitness Company looking for a spin instructor. I auditioned for the job and BOOM I GOT IT!!!! A couple of days later I finally got to audition for Gold’s Gym! The Gold’s audition was 3 hours long. I expected to audition for spin and go about my day. Turns out that every fitness instructor participated in the audition. This meant I had to do more than just spinning. Can you image doing 15-20 minutes of: step, kick boxing, total body pump and spin? With multiple instructors? Needless to say, I am now an instructor at my gym during my lunch hour.
I am currently working on a website for my fitness company, ChitaFit, where I plan on engaging and empowering my community through wellness activities and sharing information about how to live a healthier lifestyle. I am also teaching spin at different locations in the DMV area.
I am very excited about working in my passion and want you to support me in the process. The website will be completed October 15, 2013 and I will have a launch party November 2, 2013 for all to come out and learn more about ChitaFit. I currently teach at two locations: Project Fitness (1st NE & M Street – Wednesdays 7:30pm-8:30pm and Sundays 12:00pm-12:45pm) and Gold’s Gym (19th NW & L Street – Mondays 12:15pm).
Look out for more updates coming soon.
Love you all,
Maria Thomas
